FIP relapse signs and long-term follow-up

Treatment completion is an individual decision

A veterinarian considers clinical response, serial results, disease presentation and treatment history. Duration alone cannot decide whether an individual cat is ready to stop.

Changes that deserve reassessment

• Recurrent fever, appetite loss or weight loss
• Abdominal enlargement or breathing change
• New ocular or neurological signs
• Renewed deterioration in laboratory results

Not every symptom is relapse

Stable residual neurological deficits, another infection or gastrointestinal disease may look worrying after treatment. Do not restart leftover medicine without an examination and appropriate investigation.
